A Wet/Dry Point Treatment Method of FVCOM, Part I: Stability Experiments

نویسندگان

چکیده

A 3-dimensional wet/dry point treatment method was developed for the unstructured-grid Finite-Volume Community Ocean Model (FVCOM). Analytical equations were derived to examine discretized errors that occurred during flooding/drying process by process. Numerical experiments carried out an idealized estuary, including inter-tidal zone. The model results show if ratio of internal external mode time steps (Isplit) is appropriately selected, FVCOM capable simulating with sufficient accuracy ensure mass conservation. up-bound limit Isplit restricted bathymetric slope zone, step, horizontal/vertical resolution, and amplitude tidal forcing at open boundary, as well thickness viscous layer specified in model. Criteria via these parameters from experiments, which provide a helpful guide selecting applying realistic geometric estuaries.

Stability and instability in saddle point dynamics - Part I

We consider the problem of convergence to a saddle point of a concave-convex function via gradient dynamics. Since first introduced by Arrow, Hurwicz and Uzawa in [1] such dynamics have been extensively used in diverse areas, there are, however, features that render their analysis non trivial. These include the lack of convergence guarantees when the function considered is not strictly concave-...

Wrinkled Membranes Part I: Experiments

This paper presents a detailed experimental study of the evolution and shape of reversible corrugations, or wrinkles, in initially flat, linear-elastic and isotropic thin foils subject to in-plane loads. Two sets of experiments were carried out, on a rectangular membrane under simple shear and on a square membrane subjected to two pairs of equal and opposite diagonal forces at the corners. Sali...

Stability in computed optical interferometric tomography (part I): stability requirements.

As imaging systems become more advanced and acquire data at faster rates, increasingly dynamic samples can be imaged without concern of motion artifacts. For optical interferometric techniques such as optical coherence tomography, it often follows that initially, only amplitude-based data are utilized due to unstable or unreliable phase measurements. As systems progress, stable phase maps can a...

Stability and instability in saddle point dynamics Part II: The subgradient method

In part I we considered the problem of convergence to a saddle point of a concave-convex function via gradient dynamics and an exact characterization was given to their asymptotic behaviour. In part II we consider a general class of subgradient dynamics that provide a restriction in an arbitrary convex domain. We show that despite the nonlinear and nonsmooth character of these dynamics their ω-...
